Anime Vanguards modes turn the same roster into different problems. Story rewards a stable early team, Infinite rewards endurance and scaling, Raids add encounter mechanics, Challenges rotate modifiers and resource targets, Odyssey builds a run from choices, Worldlines changes elements through weather, Dungeon climbs fixed floors, and Gauntlet uses bracket rules. Choose the reward or progression gate first, then build for that mode rather than copying one general team.
Mode unlocks, rotations, floors, rewards, and enemy mechanics can change. Read the current stage panel before entering, especially when a guide names an old season or update. The in-game Codex added in Update 14.5 can also trace rewards back to their current sources.

Story and Infinite progression
Story stages are organized into maps and acts, with normal and harder variants documented across updates. Progress by upgrading one dependable unit enough to stabilize the path, then add support and economy. A rare endgame unit with a slow setup can be worse for early Story than an accessible unit that attacks immediately.
Infinite becomes available per map after the required Story clears under the documented system. It continues through wave milestones and can award Gems, Gold, quest progress, or stage-specific drops. Decide an exit condition before starting: a reward milestone, a quest counter, a time limit, or the wave where the team stops clearing efficiently. A deliberate exit protects time and makes runs comparable.
Raids and Challenges
Raids use longer acts and unique mechanics. Public documentation includes encounters with Snare, Stun, revive, mitigation, special objects, and mode currency shops. Read all boss and modifier text before the first run. If a mechanic disables units until cleansed, assign a cleanser and make sure it can reach the affected placements. If a stage favors elements, bring a real source of that element instead of relying on a generic tier ranking.
Challenges reuse Story or Legend locations with additional modifiers and personal reset windows. Select the resource you currently need—Trait Rerolls, Stat Chips, Memoria Shards, Essence, or another displayed reward—then check whether the modifier invalidates your usual team. Complete limited daily or weekly opportunities before endlessly farming a permanent route.
Odyssey and Worldlines
Odyssey is a run-based journey with escalating encounters, choices, modifiers, and lost-unit or recovery pressure. Its public description highlights more than thirty modifiers and Familiar corruption. Build around a small reliable core, take cards that solve the next rooms, and keep a reserve for a bad branch. A powerful corruption outcome is still a tradeoff; read what can be lost before confirming.
Worldlines is a floor ladder with weather that buffs or debuffs elements and can add other effects. Each floor can require a different roster. The mode has reset across x.5 updates in the public record, so verify the current season and reward before beginning a long climb. Update 14.5 officially reset Worlds Collide and placed Rebel Fighter (Gauntlet) at Floor 50. That fact belongs to the 14.5 season and should be rechecked after the next reset.
Lunar Bridge Dungeon
Update 14.5 opened Lunar Bridge as an eleven-floor Dungeon with demon bosses and fifteen-wave floors in the official changelog. The stage panel displays recommended levels, floor rewards, mechanics, and pity. The same update connected new units, Memoria, Demon Familiars, Controller Tokens, and the Dungeon Shop to this loop.
Start at the highest floor you can clear consistently, not the highest floor you can barely enter. Record which wave leaks and why. Improve early deployment if normal enemies pass, add a mechanic answer if a demon effect disables the team, and improve boss damage only when the lane is otherwise stable. Compare expected time and pity progress before repeating a slow floor for a specific drop.
Gauntlet brackets
The official 14.5 changelog describes Gauntlet as a bracket showdown with randomized tournament setup, defense attempts, and a failure review called Final Moments. Inspect the rules for the exact bracket rather than assuming normal PvP behavior. The changelog also describes custom brackets where creators can stake prizes; never stake a valuable tradable unit until the holding and return conditions are clear in the live interface.
Use a defense that works without perfect manual timing. Test placements, upgrade order, and leak points under the bracket’s modifiers. When a run fails, review the named enemy and moment of failure, then change one part of the defense. A reproducible adjustment is more useful than replacing the whole team after one attempt.
Squad planning and common mistakes
In multiplayer, agree on roles before the first wave: opening damage, economy, support, mechanic response, and late carry. Avoid stacking non-stacking buffs or leaving every player to save for an expensive unit. Use pings or short messages for boss objects and emergency upgrades.
Common mistakes include joining without reading modifiers, farming an inactive currency, using an old event route, spending mode tokens before inspecting the full shop, and copying a solo layout into a squad where path coverage is shared. The Best Teams guide provides team templates, while the current mode panel and shop provide the reward loop.
Modes FAQ
Which mode should a beginner play first?
Start with Story and the current tutorial or beginner objectives. Add Challenges when their resources become useful, then move into modes whose unlock and mechanics your roster can support.
Which mode is best for Gems?
First-clear Story rewards, Infinite milestones, Worldlines floors, quests, codes, and active events can all matter. Compare the current reward panels instead of trusting a permanent “per hour” claim.
Do all mode teams use the same units?
No. Weather, elements, boss effects, reset rules, run length, and multiplayer roles change the useful roster.
