Monarch is the headline chase trait in Anime Vanguards, but it is not automatically the best roll for every unit. Current community documentation reports a 0.1% roll chance, a 1,500-reroll per-unit pity, a very large damage increase, a small SPA improvement, extra range, and a one-placement limit. Read the live Trait Index for the exact wording before rolling because balance values can change.
Read the one-placement rule first
Monarch concentrates the unit’s value into one deployed copy. That can be excellent when the unit already has one placement, when its full kit revolves around one centerpiece, or when one copy can cover the required path. It can be poor when the unit normally contributes through several placements, multiple lanes, stacked summons, or repeated support coverage.
Do not judge from the damage number alone. Losing extra placements can reduce lane coverage, split-target control, support uptime, and total affordable output.
Choose the unit before the chase
Use a finished or clearly long-term unit. Confirm its evolved form, abilities, placement count, mode restrictions, and source availability. If the unit is still provisional in Update 15, test its base kit before committing a four-digit reroll budget.
True Shadow Monarch is a popular thematic target, but the name does not prove mechanical compatibility. Test whether its shadow army inherits trait scaling and whether the main unit already uses one placement. Read the True Shadow Monarch guide for the route and inheritance checks.
Compare against realistic alternatives
Compare Monarch with the trait you can actually keep, not with an unbuilt copy. Ethereal or Deadeye may preserve multiple placements and give a better complete team result. Solar can solve range or speed for a support. Fortune belongs on an economy unit when income, rather than damage, is the bottleneck.
Run the same map with equal unit form, stats, Familiar, Memoria, supports, and upgrades. Record first placement time, the wave when the key upgrade is reached, boss phase time, leaks, and how much Yen remains. If the comparison uses a borrowed showcase with perfect companions, it does not answer your account’s decision.
Plan the 1,500-pity budget
Trait pity is attached to one individual unit. Open the Trait Index, record that copy’s current counters, and choose acceptable stop results. Do not split rolls across duplicates. The Trait Pity guide explains the current community-documented thresholds and preservation rules.
Keep a reserve after the session. A Monarch result on an unevolved, underleveled unit with no resources left may improve less than finishing the rest of the team. Claim codes and event rewards before counting them; do not budget from an unverified rewards list.
Place the Monarch unit deliberately
One placement makes location more important. Choose a position that covers the relevant lane for as much of the wave as possible, stays inside required support ranges, and gives active abilities time to resolve. For a boss stage, the best location may be later on the path than the best early-wave position.
If the game allows selling and replacing, test whether doing so preserves ability state, summons, or accumulated mechanics. Do not assume a replacement acts like a second placement. In modes that disable traits, Monarch provides no reason to distort the team around it.
Mode-specific tradeoffs
Story rewards fast stabilization and broad coverage; one expensive centerpiece can arrive too late. Infinite rewards scaling but eventually exposes range and multi-lane weaknesses. Raids and Dungeons may reward boss burst, cleansing, or mechanic coverage more than raw panel damage. Community documentation reports Boss Rush variants that disable traits, making the roll irrelevant there.
Write the intended mode beside the trait plan. “Best trait” without a mode, placement count, and support context is not a useful recommendation.
Monarch mistakes
- Rolling on the wrong duplicate and building pity on a copy you will not use.
- Ignoring the one-placement limit because the damage line looks large.
- Assuming summoned helpers inherit Monarch.
- Comparing a perfect Monarch showcase with an unfinished alternative.
- Using Monarch on a farm unit when income determines the clear.
- Entering a traitless mode and expecting the build to behave normally.
Monarch FAQ
Is Monarch guaranteed at 1,500 rerolls?
Current community documentation says its per-unit pity is 1,500. Confirm the live Trait Index before committing the final budget.
Is Monarch official best-in-slot for True Shadow Monarch?
No developer ranking establishes that. The pairing is a community build choice and needs inheritance, placement, and mode testing.
Does trading preserve Monarch?
Current trading documentation says traits and pities on traded limited units reset. Read the confirmation every time because trading rules can change.
